Family Support Centre
Drop by the Family Support Centre and meet with one of our volunteers, and suddenly you are no longer alone as you try to come to grips with having a family member or friend suffering from a serious mental illness. The Centre is the hub of our support activities, with one-on-one peer counselling; a wide range of pamphlets, books, videos and other materials; practical information of particular interest to families of the seriously mentally ill, and, above all, a friendly space where you can sit down and share your feelings with others who have gone through it.

If you have questions, concerns, difficulties in getting services, or just want to talk, please come by or call. See below for details about our location and hours.

The Centre also serves as a meeting place for the Family to Family education course and the North Shore Schizophrenia Society board and committees. The North Shore Family Support Group also sometimes meets here.

The NSSS's administration office is located in the Centre.

Our extensive information resources cover not only serious mental illnesses and the issues associated with it, but also business matters like wills and estate planning and how to apply for disability benefits.

If language aid or cultural interpretation is required, we have members from various ethnic backgrounds who have volunteered their services. We also have literature available in French, Chinese, Spanish and Punjabi.

The Family Support Centre is located at 205 - 1865 Marine Drive, West Vancouver, near the West Vancouver Memorial Library at the west end of Ambleside Village. It is accessible by most West Vancouver buses and, from North Vancouver, by the Dundarave bus from Lynn Valley Centre (number 255).

The Centre is open most days from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. It’s best to make an appointment, however, just to make sure we have not been called away on an emergency - as will happen from time to time.

Please call us at 604-926-0856. If you cannot make it during office hours, we will make alternate arrangements to suit your needs.
